SINGAPORE: A task drive was launched by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) on Saturday (Jul 23) to better understand the work-life dreams of youths and support them in their careers.
The NTUC Youngsters Taskforce will participate 10, 000 youths in a year-long physical exercise to find out more about their goals and worries.
This comes after findings from a series of surveys plus focus group conversations conducted this year using more than 2, 000 young ones aged between 18 and 35 demonstrated that more than one in five faced challenges in career possibilities. They also stated which they would like support within career guidance and planning.
One particular study, done in partnership with Singapore College of Technology and Design, revealed which the top three problems young people faced had been in the areas of career opportunities and prospects, finances and mental health.
For this physical exercise, the task force will certainly engage with young ones between 18 and 25 years old. NTUC said that it is targeting this specific age group because they are at “a life-stage where they begin planning how they really want their careers in order to kick off and how which will fit in to their overall work-life aspirations”.
It will partner with govt agencies, Institutes better Learning, self-help organizations, youth-targeted organisations plus youth groups, and others.
Young Singaporeans who pursue non-traditional tracks like sports, arts and entrepreneurship as well as those who battled in their earlier yrs and are in need of 2nd chances will not be left out.
One key component of the task drive is the Youth Center, a roving exhibition which was also launched at LIT DISCOvery 2022 – Younger NTUC’s annual signature symposium for graduating students and young working adults.
Through this centre, the task force seeks to engage youths through a series of activities exactly where they can share their own aspirations and problems. They can also take a career profiling test and learn tips on beginning their new job or internship.
With plans to partner Institutes better Learning, this Youngsters Hub will visit various schools along with spaces intended for youths. They could also participate by means of surveys, focus group discussions and other actions.
“At the end of this year-long engagement, the NTUC Youth Taskforce will share insights and set forth recommendations on the right way to better support these youths in their work-life aspirations, as they changeover from being college students to working grown ups, ” said NTUC.
Deputy Primary Minister and Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) for Finance Lawrence Wong, guest-of-honour meant for LIT DISCOvery 2022, officiated the release on Saturday.
He was joined up with by NTUC chief executive Mary Liew, secretary-general Ng Chee Meng, assistant secretary-general Desmond Choo and Younger NTUC executive admin Wendy Tan on the event.
