In an effort to help reduce operating expenses in the public transportation business, the government is thinking about implementing a new stage of the gas cost subsidy scheme for motorcycle-taxi drivers.
The Department of Energy Business has created a schedule for the application of the energy cost payment initiative, which has been forwarded to the Ministry for review, according to Prasert SinsukprasERt, permanent minister for energy, who made the announcement monday.
According to Mr. Prasert, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga have the power to review the 600 million baht estimated account without the commission’s approval.

In the initial phase of the project, 106, 655 motorcycle-taxi drivers received a 50 % co-payment for their energy costs after demonstrating that they were properly licensed by the Department of Land Transport as of March 22 of last year.
The rebate program, which was put into effect between May and July of last year, had a maximum monthly cap of 250 ringgit per person.
The state also waived income taxes for the riders as part of the project, which at the moment incurred a administrative burden of 79.99 million baht.
The drawn-out process of renewing a driving license while receiving the payment was one drawback noted in the application of the project’s initial phase.
