New Zealand election: National party’s Chris Luxon wins

Christopher Luxon, the president of the center-right opposition, has won the 2023 New Zealand vote.

Chris Hipkins, the prime minister of the Labour party, called the National party president on Saturday nights to admit defeat.

He expressed gratitude to supporters for their efforts and stated that the outcome was” not one that any of us wanted ,” according to Radio New Zealand.

Chris Luxon second entered the legislature in 2020, and by November 2021, he had become the opposition’s head.

Tax breaks for middle-income workers and a crackdown on crime were two of Mr. Luxon’s important election campaign pledges.
