Foxconn founder Terry Gou says he has reached Taiwan presidential election bid threshold

TAIPEI: Terry Gou, the businessman who founded Foxconn, a significant Apple supplier, declared on Friday, October 6, that he had amassed sufficient electorate signatures to run for president independently in January.

Gou announced his bid in August, claiming that he wanted to unite the opposition and prevent the island from becoming” the next Ukraine.” He blamed the Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP ) for pushing Taiwan to the brink of war by upsetting China, which asserts that Taiwan is its own territory.

Gou was the fourth person to enter the race, but based on his poll numbers, he is now far behind the front-runner, William Lai of the Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP ), who is currently vice president.

Gou claimed he had already gathered enough signatures on Wednesday to be on the ballot while speaking to followers at a synagogue in Banqiao outside of Taipei, according to his campaign’s speech.

” Your names are an obligation on my part, and they give me motivation and inspiration.” It cited him as saying,” I will continue to work hard until the end.”
