Social media giants removed ‘anti-state’ posts in Vietnam: State media

HONOI: At the communist government’s request, social media behemoths YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook removed nearly 800″ anti-state” or” false” posts in Vietnam over the course of a month, according to state media on Friday( Oct 6 ).

The state-controlled Thanh Nien newspaper reported in a report, quoting the Ministry of Information and Communications( MIC ), that between the middle of August and mid-September, about 380 YouTube videos, 364 Facebook posts, and 33 TikTok links were taken down or blocked.

According to the report, some of the posts included” false and negative … information against the group, condition, organizations, and individuals … defaming leaders.”

The communist government in Vietnam forbids any opposition to one-party principle, and social media restrictions are used by the government to limit freedom of expression.

Government critics with virtual followings are frequently targeted because all advertising is under state handle.

The MIC released the findings of an exploration into TikTok, which is thought to have 50 million people in Vietnam, on Thursday.
