Russia says Japan did not inform it fully about radioactive Fukushima water

MOSCOW: Despite repeated requests from both Moscow and Beijing, Russia claimed on Wednesday( Oct 4) that Japan had not fully disclosed the nuclear liquid being discharged from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant.

After receiving harsh criticism from China, Japan began releasing treated nuclear water from Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean in August. China then outright prohibited all shellfish exports from Japan.

According to Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry,” We and China have repeatedly urged the Chinese side to show accountability and give all curious state total access to all information about the release of water from the Fukushima – 1 nuclear power plant.”

According to Zakharova,” Japan has certainly done this.” ” Japan hasn’t adequately addressed these problems and ensured the lack of any threats, including long-term ones.”

The country’s worst nuclear crisis since Chornobyl 25 years prior, in what was then Soviet Ukraine, was caused by a large earthquake and tsunami in 2011 at Fukushima.

The International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ) has determined that the release’s impact on people and the environment is” negligible ,” and Japan claims that it is safe.

According to a Russian governor last quarter, Russia is thinking about joining China in outlawing the importation of Japanese seafood.

If Tokyo stopped dumping its misuse into the ocean, according to Zakharova, the majority of Russia’s worries may be” soon removed ,” and China had also expressed the same opinion.
