Homeless subsidies falling on deaf ears

Less than 100 people have signed up for the program over the past month, according to Minister of Social Development and Human Security Varawut Silpa-archa, who is pushing for housing grants for poor people.

He stated yesterday that the plan covers quarter of their room rent. The Thai Health Promotion Foundation and the ministry collaborated on the payment. Additionally, the office offers assistance to unemployed people in finding employment.

The applicant may be poor and the rental price of the residence must fall within the range of 2, 000 to 3, 000 baht per month as the primary requirements for registration.

According to Mr. Varawut, the house could be a personal residence or public housing.

Less than 100 poor people have registered to receive the rent incentives, despite the fact that the program has been in operation for a time. According to him, many of those who received this assistance have since resumed their normal lives and are no longer receiving the incentives because they are employed.

The parson continued by saying that the number of homeless people is rising, particularly in Bangkok. Some people work part-time and lack a steady income.

In order to prevent poor people from returning to living on the streets, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security seeks to help them find employment and secure wages.

Next week, Mr. Varawut promised to meet with Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt to explain the circumstance and provide him with an update on the number of homeless people.

Mr. Varawut stated that by 2036, all Vietnamese people should be able to purchase cover and live in better quality of life. The ministry’s goal is to decrease the number of homeless people in Bangkok and other major cities across the nation.
