Domestic strife was a common problem for the Democrat Party, an opposition party in the House of Representatives. The Democrats called two public assemblies to choose a new leader after Jurin Laksanawisit resigned from his position as party leader, but both times there was no quorum, so they were unable to move forward.
Mr. Jurin announced his resignation in order to accept accountability for the Democrats’ dismal performance in the May 14 general election, which saw them win only 25 House seats — roughly half of the total they received from the 2019 poll.
