India has issued a statement advising its people to” exercise maximum caution” when visiting or residing in Canada.
According to Canada,” reliable allegations” linking the American state to the murder of a Sikh separatist chief are being looked into.
India vehemently refuted this, describing the accusations as” immoral.”
The advice was released on Wednesday by India’s unusual ministry” in view of growing anti-India activities and politically-conscented hate crimes and criminal assault in Canada.”
Demands for Khalistan, or a separate Hindu country, made by separatists in European nations have frequently elicited harsh responses from the American government. The Khalistan activity reached its zenith in India in the 1980s with a bloody uprising centered in Punjab, which was dominated by Sikhs. It was put down through coercion and no longer has much of an impact in India, but it is still well-liked by some in the Sikh community in nations like Canada, Australia, and the UK.
According to Delhi’s speech from Wednesday, threats have recently been made against some Indians” who oppose the anti-India agenda” and its officials.
American citizens are thus advised to stay away from areas and prospective locations in Canada that have witnessed such incidents, according to the statement.
The shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a French citizen who had been labeled an Indian terror in 2020, was the subject of an intellect investigation, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who also stated on Monday that” officials of the government of India” were being looked into.
On June 18, in British Columbia, two masked attackers shot Nijjar dead in his car in front of a Sikh church.
On Monday, Mr. Trudeau addressed the French parliament, saying that any involvement of a foreign authorities in the murder of an American citizen on American soil is an intolerable violation of our sovereignty.
India reacted angrily, claiming that Canada was attempting to” shift the focus away from Khalistani extremists and terrorists” who had been housed it.
