Suspect, policeman killed in drug smuggling shootout

CHIANG RAI: In the Wiang Chai area on Tuesday night, a tonne of crystal methamphetamine and thousands of pills were seized in addition to the shooting deaths of two police officers.

After using their vehicles to stop a dark Toyota Fortuner from leaving an alley, narcotics reduction police opened fire.

According to the law, the pilot attempted to flee and refused to turn himself in. His car was severely damaged when it collided with a power pole and another roads signal before stopping.

As officers approached his stalled car, the vehicle started firing from inside the room. Khamnee’s Pol Sen Sgt Maj Weerawat was killed. Another officer, a police lieutenant colonel, was also struck but was saved by his bullet-proof coat. He was severely bruised. The suspect was killed after officers fired up. In approximately 90 minute, everything was over.

The deceased suspect was identified as Janoi, a 51-year-old Lahu resident of Chiang Mai’s Chai Prakan city. His figure and a 9mm handgun were discovered inside the car.

In baskets inside the Fortuner, police claimed to have discovered one kilogram of crystal meth and around 5 million rate medications.
