The Transport Ministry has ordered the Department of Highways to fix the cracked surface under an expressway on Rama II Road to avoid accidents.
Montri Dechasakulsom, mouthpiece director-general of the section, said Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob acquired ordered the division to inspect the damage. He and engineers looked into it on Thursday night and found splits and pieces of precast segments on the ground upon Highway No . 9 which runs through Bang Khru to Bang Khun Thien.
The expressway has been continuously in service for twenty three years. The damage is believed to stem in the weight of all the vehicles using the bridge. This past year, 208, 685 vehicles a day were documented there, including 17, 565 trucks.
Apart from the cracks under the bridge, most significant damage continues to be detected, meaning it could still likely function as normal.
The department may fix it within fourteen days starting today. The cracks will not damage the main structure or its strength, authorities said.
