Surat Thani touts B60m for new pier

Surat Thani: Construction on a wharf to increase tourism in the Chaiya district has been budgeted at 60 million baht, and work on it is expected to start immediately, according to governor Witchawut Jinto.

The Marine Department has approved the design of the pier, which will be situated close to a public garden in tambon Phum Riang, he said, adding that the municipal operational organization will handle construction and procedures.

According to Mr. Witchawut, Chaiya, which is close to the Surat Thani airports, has a number of tourist destinations. He claimed that because the jetty project has the potential to strengthen the local economy, municipal authorities offered full support for it.

Tourists interested in historical attractions, specifically Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, will be drawn to the wharf. One of the top three historical sites in the southern region, the temple, which is 900 – 1,200 years old, is well-known for its architecture.

The government lists Wat Suan Mokkhapalaram, the Ban Phumriang craft center, which is renowned for its distinctive hand-woven silk fabric, as well as Muay Chaiya, a form of martial arts.

Tourist destinations include Mu Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park, Hoh Samui, Koop Phangan, Coh Tao, and more. All of these places are close by.

According to Mr. Witchawut, the pier may improve provincial communication and increase visitor numbers.
