In order to keep up with the global trend in wellness and increase related investment and the tourism industry, Phuket’s tourism and property development sectors have urged Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to quickly consider their proposal for an Andaman Wellness Economic Corridor( AWC ).
The call comes after Mr. Srettha’s August 25 – 26 trip to Phuket and Phangnga, where he took office to speak with locals and solicit feedback from the private sector about potential tourism initiatives for the two provinces.
The AWC plan was presented to him there for consideration by a group of businessmen led by Kan Prachumphan, Director of the Beach Group and Andaman City Development Co, and mind of an economic purchase excitement research project in Phuket.

Mr. Kan said the state should boost funding to build Phuket International Airport to tackle an international holiday flow that is anticipated to reach about 18 million visitors by next year in order to clear the way for the AWC.

He suggested that the government improve laws that prevent the establishment of the AWC in the southern provinces in addition to the airport development.
Mr. Kan suggested that the government support Phuket’s Sister City of Investment policy in order to encourage finance and investment in the area and help it further develop its real estate, hospitality, mass transportation system, and online finance market.
Phuket might think about working with a Chinese, Hong Kong, or Singaporean capital to build its cable vehicle project.
In order to increase the connection of the transportation system in the Andaman area, he even suggested the Transit Oriented Development and Land Bridge project, which would build new landmarks using cutting-edge technology and develop a mass transit system.
For instance, he suggested that Phuket Old Town in Muang area create a shopping area and interface in addition to its mass transportation system to accommodate visitors.

A new legislation for AWC is being proposed
Setting up the AWC is not an easy process, but the government cannot avoid it, according to Thanapat Uttawarapong, an researcher from Andaman City Development.
Mr. Thanapat advised the government to enact a specific laws to get rid of roadblocks caused by the law.
Trials may be finished in less than two years if the particular law is in place and the project is established by the prime minister, he said.
He claimed that the AWC initiative has the full support of the private market.
