More than 6,000 victims fall prey to job scams this year, with losses of nearly S$97 million

SINGAPORE: According to the Singapore police on Saturday( Sep 16 ), at least 6,600 victims have been victimized by job scams so far this year, with losses totaling up to S$ 96.8 million.

According to their mid-year violence data, more than 5,700 employment scam scenarios involving costs of S$ 79.4 million were reported.

The authorities issued another consulting on Saturday warning of a type of job scam where victims may be deceived into answering surveys before being presented with fictitious job opportunities, highlighting the rising occurrence of such crimes. & nbsp,

Unsolicited WhatsApp or Telegram information would be sent to patients asking them to answer questions or like social media posts in trade for a small fee.

Scammers would provide another WhatsApp or Telegram contact for victims to join another group to perform tasks like” boosting” the value of cryptocurrencies or” reviewing” online merchants after victims were persuaded that they could earn a commission. & nbsp,

According to the authorities, subjects had to open accounts on con websites and transfer funds to bank accounts that the con artists had provided in order to complete these tasks. & nbsp,

” Scammers may instruct victims in some circumstances to provide an advance payment of sizable amount of their own money for a variety of motives.”
