PM aims to discuss subs with German president

In an effort to persuade Berlin to permit Thailand to deploy European machines on the kingdom’s fresh submarines that are being assembled in China, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin intends to meet with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of Germany.

Mr. Steinmeier and the German president are scheduled to attend the 78th treatment of the UN General Assembly in New York the following week, so a request to join him has been made, according to Mr Srettha.

Due to delays brought on by the pandemic, one of Thailand’s fresh S26T Yuan-class ships was supposed to be delivered this quarter but will instead arrive in April of next year.

China Shipbuilding & amp, Offshore International Co ( CSOC ), which was hired to construct the submarine as part of a government-to-government agreement, offered to install the CHD620 engine after Germany objected to the fitting of its MTU396 diesel engine on the Chinese submarine frame, claiming that it was an exclusive military-defense item.

Only the purchase of new weapons that are deemed absolutely needed will be approved, according to the PM, as the government must use its limited resources to support the nation’s unstable economy and other important policies.

Separately, Sutin Klungsang, the defense minister, described his strategy for reshaping the military forces over the coming four times yesterday.

Speaking in legislature on Tuesday, he stated that the program took society’s expectations of a contemporary and small armed forces into consideration.

He began by saying that over the next four years, the armed forces may be resized. Over the following ten years, the number of commanders will likewise decrease.

Next, he stated that required conscription will continue for the time being but that voluntary enlistment will gradually take its place over the course of the following four years.

According to Mr. Sutin, the military forces should take a more proactive role in assisting the nation’s economic growth and efforts to end hunger.

To improve the country’s protective capabilities and optimize its management, the armed forces must even adopt new technology.

He declared that the military forces would implement measures to increase transparency in selecting and procurement.

Following his speech, Chaithawat Tulathon, a list-MP and secretary-general of the opposition Move Forward Party( MFP ), claimed that the government had neglected to mention its commitment to develop opportunistic measures to stop military coups from occurring once more.

Why don’t you even try use the word” coup”? Perhaps it now sounds very unpleasant to actually say ,” he speculated.
