Commentary: We can act, not just adapt, against the haze

TURNING UP

I’m hoping Singaporeans did take action if or when the cloud arrives.

Members of the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Laos in August emphasized the significance of taking decisive action to reduce maritime cloud and property and forest fires.

Additionally, they reiterated their dedication to the 2022 ASEAN Transboundary Haze Pollution Agreement. The parties are required to immediately respond to requests for pertinent information or consultations made by a condition or states that are or may be affected by such transnational cloud waste in order to lessen the effects of such pollution, among other obligations.

It will be harder for a business to ignore an data ask, at least in theory.

Simply adapting won’t benefit our neighbor or, in the end, us. We may persevere and have faith in our ability to change the world.
