SURAT THANI: Police announced yesterday that a 60-year-old Scandinavian man who was wanted in Bangkok on medication charges had been apprehended on Koh Samui after fleeing for two years.

On Thursday evening, immigration officials detained Reino Pentti Olavi Martin in a car park in front of rented housing on the southwestern holiday island of tambon Bo Phut.

Martin: Was sought after on medicine costs.

On February 25, 2021, the Bangkok South Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Martin’s illegal possession of glass with the intent to buy.

In 2020, he was detained in Bangkok’s Thong Lor neighborhood and given bond. He jumped bond, though, and the judge issued an arrest warrant for him.

The arrest, according to Pol Col. Suparuek Phankosol, commander of Surat Thani immigration police, occurred after officials learned that the Finnish national was wanted in Bangkok from the alert system of the Immigration Bureau.

According to records, Mr. Martin’s card ran out on December 22, 2021.

Officers started monitoring Mr. Martin’s whereabouts, which resulted in his collar. Police initially accused him of overstaying his card when they caught him.

Before being turned over to the Bangkok South Criminal Court to handle the drug offense, he was sent to Bo Phut law place to answer the card cost.
