Bosnian Serb leader bans international peace envoy from entering his region

SARAJEVO: Milorad Dodik, the leader of the Bosnian Serb separatist movement, stated on Thursday( Sept. 7) that officers in Bosnia’s serb-dominated region have been given instructions to detain and behave an international peace minister if he enters the Serbian Republic.

Because Christian Schmidt was not approved by the UN Security Council, Croatian Serbs claim they do not recognize him as the country’s foreign High Representative.

The Serb Republic and the Federation, which was ruled by Bosniaks and Croats, were the two autonomous provinces that made up the Balkan country at the time of the Dayton peace agreements that put an end to Bosnia’s devastating war in the 1990s.

Dodik, the leader of the Serb Republic, has long supported the region’s independence from Bosnia because it is dominated by the Slavs.

At a press conference, Dodik and Bosnia’s Serb Security Minister Nenad Nesic, who supported his action, stated that” the training has been sent to the field now.”

Dodik said:” If he comes to a meeting in Republika Srpska( Serb Republic ), she will be thrown out ,” on Wednesday, the day the ban was announced. The police will need to organize a unit to remove Schmidt as soon as they learn that he is in Republika Srpska.

Schmidt’s department didn’t respond right away.

Schmidt revoked two legislation signed by Dodik that suspended rulings made by Schmidt and Bosnia’s legal courtroom in July. Schmidt has the authority to impose laws and fire officials deemed to be interfering with serenity.

Dodik and another formal were accused by Bosnia’s lawyers in August of disobeying the High Representative, a crime that could result in up to five years in prison.

In retaliation, Dodik’s followers organized demonstrations last week at the administrative centers of the two locations in Bosnia, waving flags with Russian President Vladimir Putin and escalating racial tensions.

Since 2021, Pro-Russian Dodik has been attempting to break up the Serb Republic from Bosnia, but the conflict in Ukraine forced him to stop his efforts.

Due to his plans, the European Union and Germany have stopped funding projects in the Serb Republic, but Dodik said he would look to other nations, like China, for money.
