BMA grapples with mpox surge

After a sharp increase in the number of monkeypox cases, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA) is providing clinic consultations for treatment and prevention.

According to assistant Bangkok government Tavida Kamolvej, 80 monkeypox cases were discovered in Bangkok next quarter, which was higher than in June and July, mainly in tourist areas. People under the age of 18 were involved in some of the situations that were reported.

According to Ms. Tavida, the BMA is attempting to work with academic organisations to spread knowledge of the illness.

More information about the disease may be made public with the aid of the BMA’s gender-inclusive facilities, Swing Thailand and BBK Pride Clinic, she said.

BBK Pride Clinics, which provide sex education and advice about sexually transmitted infections( STIs ), are operating in public health centers throughout the capital, according to the BMA’s Health Department.

LGBTQ people can even receive consultation services and wellness exams in Bangkok’s public and private institutions. Companies are not just for STI screening; they also include routine wellness exams to look for health risks, particularly for those between the ages of 18 and 60.

At the centers, they may also get gender-affirming surgery, hormone treatments, and mental health care.

As of August 31, there were 316 monkeypox cases reported in Thailand and one death, according to the Department of Disease Control ( DDC ). 271 of the 316 patients who were reported identified as queer, and 143 people, or roughly 45 % of those infected, were also HIV positive.

277 of the infected individuals were Siamese people, 36 were foreigners, and three withheld their nationality information. In Bangkok, 198 cases were reported, including 22 in Chon Buri, 17 in Nonthaburi, and 12 in Samut Prakan.

The majority of circumstances involved people between the ages of 30 and 39, then 20 and 29, but there have been significant increases in the number of patients over the age of 24.

Although the majority of mpox cases involve boys of working time, the DDC reported that 16 minors were among those who contracted the disease in August.
