Singaporean rapper Subhas Nair, 31, was given a six-week prison term on Tuesday( Sept. 5 ) for trying to incite animosity among racial and religious groups through online posts.
Nair, who goes by the whole name Subhas Govin Prabhakar, was found guilty in July of four for charges in connection with remarks he made about races and religions between July 2019 and March 2021.
According to his attorney, Mr. Suang Wijaya, he intends to charm his sentence and paragraph and maintains his sincerity.
District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan concurred with the trial that punishment for like offenses” takes on a greater value in the age of social media and the internet ,” as ill-intentioned racist emails can be almost instantly transmitted to an audience.
He continued by saying that such messages harm community as a whole, not just the targeted racial or religious organizations.
The four offenses for which Nair was found guilty involved a YouTube video in which he and Preetipls, his sister, sang the song” Chinese people always out heref *** ing it up.”
The police issued him a two-year provisional alert for this, but he offended them by making comments on social media.
He wrote:” If two Malay Muslims made a video promoting Islam and saying the kinds of hateful things these Chinese Christians said, ISD( Internal Security Department ) would have been at the door before they even hit” upload.” He made this comment in response to two Christians who had linked the gay pride movement to Satan.
In a different affair, Nair posted on Instagram about Chan Jia Xing’s press interview, in which he was given the provisional warning for having reduced the charge of consorting with someone who was armed. Seven people were initially accused of killing a person at Orchard Towers, including Chan.
According to Nair,” calling out racism and Chinese opportunity” equated to a two-year conditional warning and” smear campaign in the internet ,” whereas” actually conspiring to murder an American man” equaled half the word and the question” you’re having blunder right now”? ” Boy or girl ,” a media report.
