Engine room explosion on ferry off Chumphon, 18 injured

Eighteen passengers had been injured when a ferry on the Chumphon-Koh Tao route exploded plus caught fire within the sea about 5 kilometres off the Chumphon coast on Wednesday afternoon.

Police and rescue workers raced to assist injured passengers off from burnign vessel at Koh Ka within tambon Hat Sairee, in Muang district, Chumphhon. The wounded mostly suffered burns,  

Other passenger leaped into the sea.

There was a good explosion the ferry, operated by Lomprayah Co, around second . 30pm, according to the Chumphon Karnkusolsongkhoh foundation.  

Law enforcement said the explosion was in the ferry’s engine room. The fire spread following that.
