Comedy club case: Jawi holds off on charging Siti Nuramira for now

KUALA LUMPUR: Siti Nuramira Abdullah, the woman whose stand-up comedy act has caused controversy, has been released by the Government Territory Islamic Spiritual Department (Jawi) on Tuesday (July 19) night.

The particular expected prosecution against her at the Syariah High Court also did not materialise on Wednesday (July 20).

In a declaration by paralegal Hannann Syoffeeya Zainal Syahrir, who is attached to the law firm representing Siti Nuramira, the 26-year-old was released by Jawi at 10pm with no bail or relationship.

Hannann stated the prosecution simply by Jawi would occur when the religious person is prepared to do so.

She also declared that Siti Nuramira’s legal team was facing difficulties finding a Muslim bailer as they had been preparing for the expected proceedings on Wednesday morning.

The particular Kuala Lumpur Syariah court complex had been swarmed with mass media personnel since morning hours as they waited regarding Siti Nuramira who had been expected to face a criminal charge under the Syariah law.

Meanwhile, Alexander Navin pleaded not liable to two counts under Section 233 of the Communications plus Multimedia Act 1998 for misusing system facilities.

For that first charge, Alexander Navin was arrested of sharing the post on his Instagram account on June 5 with the intention to insult other people.

For the second charge, he apparently shared content via his YouTube accounts on June sixteen with the intention of insulting others.
