Fire size of football field engulfs Tuas factory storing chemicals

SINGAPORE: An industrial fire the size of a football field broke out in Tuas early on Wednesday (Jul 5), said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The fire “fully engulfed the premises”, which stores and distributes chemicals, said SCDF.

SCDF was alerted to the fire at 11 Tuas Link 1 and firefighting operation was underway, it said in a Facebook post at around 3.30am. “This is expected to be an extended operation.”

In an update 30 minutes later, SCDF added that it was alerted to the incident at around 2.05am and the fire was “raging at the premises” when it arrived.

“Firefighters from Tuas Fire Station, Tuas View Fire Station and Special Response Unit deployed four water jets and an Unmanned Firefighting Machine to surround the fire and prevent it from spreading to the neighbouring premises.”

It said at the time that no injuries were reported.
