SCO summit: Putin to address meeting chaired by Indian PM Modi

For the first time since the Wagner soldier group staged a revolt in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to speak at the world summit.

On Tuesday, he will virtually attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ( SCO ) summit with leaders from China, India, Pakistan, and four Central Asian nations.

This year’s mountain, which will take place only two days after US President Joe Biden hosted Indian Prime Minister Modi, Narendra for a position visit, will be presided over by India.

Afghanistan, climate change, local safety, the economy, and food security are a few of the topics that are likely to be covered at the meeting.

But most notably, the SCO may give Mr. Putin a platform to demonstrate that, despite the Ukraine War, people still want and hear him on international stages.

As a deterrent to reduce the influence of the Western in the area, China, Russia, and four Central Asian nations established the SCO in 2001. Pakistan and India joined the group in 2017.

He might even caution the West against what he perceives to be their meddling in Ukraine. And Delhi might never find that to be very appealing.

The event’s host, India, would like to see some concrete results, such as commitments to commerce, funding to combat climate change, the trade in drugs, food security, and money laundering. Bilateral agreements are not an option because the conference is taking place almost.

However, India may number a summit of G20 leaders in September, making this an important political year for the country. Delhi faces a significant problem because the two forums have distinct priorities and political alliances.

The SCO summit also takes place just weeks after Mr. Modi’s express visit was welcomed by the US with a purple carpet.

He and Washington signed important defense agreements, but the joint statement even alluded to China’s expanding effect in the Indo Pacific and the Russian conflict in Ukraine.

Some people may view for starkly divergent political priorities as a problem in terms of diplomacy, but Delhi insists that it demonstrates the power and freedom of its international policy.

India appears to have persuaded the West that it cannot obtain to sever its long-standing relations with Moscow regarding Russia.

In the early stages of the war, India’s decision not to immediately criticize Russia came under fire from its Western allies. But as Washington and other supporters reluctantly accepted Delhi’s place, that has changed.

Despite Mr. Modi’s serious efforts to diversify the portfolio in recent years, India also imports almost 50 % of its defense wants from Russia.

Mr. Modi’s problem for the conference will be to resolve its significant differences with China and Pakistan, its neighbors.

At a SCO crown of its foreign ministers held in Goa in May, Pakistan and India made stern claims against one another.

India frequently accuses Pakistan of inciting violence in the area on its own internal programs.

Under its president, Delhi does not act in that way, but Islamabad perhaps be shaken by any mention of state-sponsored terrorism.

It will be fascinating to see if President Xi Jinping discusses the Indo-Pacific and particularly targets India-Washington relations. China’s position on what the Russian president says is most likely good.

Since their army clashed in 2020 along their disputed Himalayan border, relations between India and China have been strained in recent years.

According to reports, Iran may be granted full SCO account this year, which would be Tehran’s primary in many years. This action may undoubtedly enrage the West.

Mr. Modi enjoys making headlines and showcasing his accomplishments, but in order to make a combined SCO assertion that appears promising and addresses Delhi’s top priorities on issues like terrorism, food poverty, and climate change, he will need to overcome significant obstacles.
