Singapore Government contributes US$50, 000 to Afghanistan earthquake relief efforts

SINGAPORE: The Government can contribute US$50, 1000 to support the public fundraising efforts of the Singapore Red Cross carrying out a disastrous earthquake in Afghanistan .

“The Singapore Govt will contribute US$50, 000 as seed money to support the Singapore Red Cross’ (SRC) public fundraising efforts towards the humanitarian crisis caused by the particular earthquake in Afghanistan on Jun 22, 2022, ” the particular Ministry of International Affairs (MFA) stated in a statement on Friday (Jun 24).

“This will supplement the SRC’s dedication of S$50, 1000 pertaining to urgently needed healthcare supplies and other fundamental necessities.

“Singapore conveys our deepest condolence to the groups of the victims of the earthquake. ”

Wednesday’s 5. 9-magnitude quake – Afghanistan’s deadliest in many years – struck toughest in rugged eastern Paktika province.

In addition to damaging or even destroying thousands of earthen homes and other buildings, it downed cell phone towers and energy lines while triggering rockslides and mudslides which blocked hill roads.

The earthquake has wiped out at least 1, 1000 people, and injured 1, 500. More than 3, 000 houses were destroyed.

The death toll makes it Afghanistan’s deadliest earthquake in 20 years, according to US federal government data.
