EC: Applications for postal voting now open

PETALING JAYA: Applications for domestic and international postal voting are open immediately, says Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak.

The application closing date will be notified later after the EC has met to determine the dates of the 15th General Election (GE15), said Ikmalrudin.

“The EC takes into account the declaration of the dissolution of the 14th Parliament, which has been made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, at the consent of His Majesty, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Oct 10, 2022,” he said.

“In connection with that, the EC would like to inform that the application for domestic and foreign postal votes for GE15 is now open immediately,” Ikmalrudin added in a statement on Monday (Oct 10).

General election staff, police and army personnel as well as members of the media, must apply for postal votes manually by completing Form 1A and submitting it to the Returning Officer’s office at each polling division.

The form can be downloaded from the EC website at https://www.spr.gov.my while the office address and information of the Returning Officer is also available on the official portal.

Malaysians living abroad and agencies or organisations can apply online via https://myspr.spr.gov.my/login for postal voting.

The EC will also be having a special meeting soon to discuss and determine the dates of GE15 and also the implementation of the Bugaya by-election, added Ikmalrudin.

Earlier on Monday (Oct 10), the Prime Minister had said that the King had given his formal consent to dissolve Parliament, paving the way for GE15 to be held within 60 days.
