GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP will meet on Monday (Oct 10) night to discuss the dissolution of Parliament announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow, who is also state Chief Minister, said the state DAP liaison committee will meet and its decision will be announced later.
“The state committee will have a meeting this evening to study and decide the next step following the dissolution of Parliament.
“We will also look into the latest developments ahead of nomination day,” he told reporters.
Chow also expressed regret over the decision to dissolve the Parliament ahead of the monsoon season which would bring heavier rainfall to the country.
It was reported that Penang, Kedah, Selangor and Negri Sembilan had said that they would not be holding state polls concurrently with the general election.
Penang has 13 parliamentary seats, Kedah (15), Selangor (22), and Negri Sembilan (8), which will be contested.
Earlier Monday, Ismail Sabri, in a special address, announced that Parliament would be dissolved with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, paving the way for the 15th General Election (GE15) within 60 days.
