5 time deadline for information on badge claims
On Friday, the Highway Police Division ( HPD ) gave all sub-divisions instructions to submit reports about any instances of highway lorry bribery occurring in their precincts within five days.
The demand was made by Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, commander of the Anti-Corruption Division( ACD ), who was also serving as HPD commander. He threatened to take legal action against sub-division officials if their reports turned out to be false.
In response to statements made by Move Forward Party ( MFP ) MP-elect Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat cited information provided by Land Transport Federation of Thailand( LTFT ) chairman Apichart Prairungruang regarding bribery involving the use of stickers.
Cars operating illegally on streets reportedly used the stickers after paying bribes to authorities and other officials to evade being apprehended. The roadway corruption network is said to include several highway police officers and their associates.
Following the allegations, Pol Maj Gen Ekkaraj Limsangkat, the HPD commander, was moved to an inactive position at the Central Investigation Bureau’s ( CIB ) Operations Center.
According to Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat, who has vowed to enhance the HPD’s reputation by eradicating bridge corruption, any police officers involved in this discussion will face legal and administrative activity.
In the meantime, Pol Gen Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, the police inspector basic, has stated that the CIB and the Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police are working together on the same situation.
According to Pol Gen Visanu, the council had requested a declaration from Mr. Wiroj and the LTFT regarding the purported bridge bribery. He stated that teams are being sent out by the committee to look into the says.
According to Pol Gen Visanu, everyone implicated in the corruption case will be charged and subject to discipline.
The posters used in the alleged corruption were supplied and sold by 46 people, five of whom have been found to be connected to police officers, according to an informed resource.
Claims that the partner of a deputy commander of the Nakhon Pathom municipal authorities provided the” bribe-paid” posters are among the details provided by Mr. Apichart.
