Luxury vehicles to be used for tourism, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The use of luxury vehicles for tourism purposes will be implemented in the near future, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

In a Facebook post on Friday (July 15), the Transport Minister said this was decided following a dialogue with members of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) at his office in Putrajaya.

“After hearing their feedback, I have decided to implement the usage of luxury vehicles for tourism.

“This is considering the demand of foreigners, especially those travelling for business, intending to do so in luxury vehicles,” he said.

He said that these visitors usually came in small groups and preferred higher-end services or facilities.

“Their presence similarly will have a positive impact on our economy given that they have stronger spending power as well,” he said, adding that he has instructed the ministry’s Land Transport division to carry out the necessary procedures.

The guidelines for this would be released soon, he said.

He added that another issue raised were the rights and interests of the public and consumers which included domestic and foreign visitors travelling by air.

“Some of these issues involve airlines; hence we will meet with the relevant stakeholders to find the best solutions soon.

“Most importantly, we do not want to have any restrictions that hinder the country’s economic recovery especially now that Malaysia is transitioning towards endemicity,” he said.

The dialogue was led by MATTA president Datuk Tan Kok Liang.

Also present were its secretary-general Faeez Fadhillah, Land Transport vice president JK Siow, Air Transport vice president Shazli Affuat Ghazali, Inbound and Domestic vice president Ganesh Ramaa, International Relations exco member Datuk Hamzah Rahmat and MATTA Negri Sembilan president Lee Fook Moi.
