More thundery showers expected for rest of July

SINGAPORE: More thundery showers are expected for the rest of the month, although there could still be a few warm days with the daily temperature exceeding 34 degrees Celsius, said the Meteorological Service Singapore on Friday (Jul 15).

In its fortnightly outlook, the Met Service said that generally fair and warm conditions can be expected on the first few days of the second half of July. This is due to stable atmospheric conditions arising from the presence of dry air over Singapore and the surrounding region.

For the rest of July, however, the monsoon rain band is forecast to lie close to the equator, bringing more rainfall.

As such, localised short-duration showers – at times with thunder – can be expected over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon on most days in the fortnight, said the Met Service.

On some of those days, the thundery showers could be heavy, “due to strong day-time heating of land areas coupled with convergence of winds over Singapore and the surrounding vicinity”, said the Met Service.

There will also likely be thundery showers with occasional gusty winds in the predawn hours and morning on some days across the island.
