BMA scraps movie night at station

The particular Bangkok Metropolitan Management (BMA) has made a decision to cancel the screening of the film Khu Kham at Hua Lamphong station upon Sunday, after the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said permission was not sought and voiced concerns about overcrowding.

The screening was meant to be part of Bangkok Klang Pang, a backyard film festival organised by the BMA happening at a number of general public venues across the capital.

Ekkarat Sriarayanpong, director of the SRT’s public relations division, said City Hall did not seek the particular SRT’s permission to utilize the station pertaining to Sunday’s screening.

He said the station isn’t suited for such an event, especially since the verification was scheduled to take place on the last day of a five-day lengthy weekend.

“Many people who are coming back from long trips will be arriving at Hua Lamphong station, that could cause overcrowding when the screening goes forward, ” he said.

“The station is a closed area and the verification isn’t appropriate provided the surge within Covid-19 cases, ” Mr Ekkarat stated.

The station was chosen by the BMA under Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt because it will allow the screening to take place during the rainy time of year.
