Vietnam objects to Australian coin with war-era yellow flag

Australia's commemorative War in Vietnam coin with South Vietnam's yellow flagMINT PERTH

Vietnam has vehemently objected to Australia’s coining of a penny featuring the South Vietnamese yellow flag.

Vietnam urged Australia to stop its flow and claimed that the coin defies good trends in bilateral ties.

During the War in Vietnam, which resulted in the country’s unification, Australia fought alongside the losing US-backed South.

To commemorate 50 years since Australia withdrew its military from Vietnam, a small version two dollar coin was printed.

The string colors used to honor American veterans are the inspiration for the golden flag in the penny design, which is contained in a ring.

Pham Thu Hang, a deputy director for Vietnam’s foreign ministry, said,” We regret and resolutely protest against the discharges and flow of items containing the yellow symbol with three stripes, the symbol of an existing government.”

On the reverse side of the coin, a UH-1H chopper is depicted, and on the reverse side, the slow Queen Elizabeth II.

As a five-day holiday to commemorate the end of the war came to an end, Vietnam filed the opposition.

The Royal Australian Mint was unavailable for reply, but it has stated in the past that the gold honors those who served and lost their lives. Between 1962 and 1975, more than 520 Australians perished in Vietnam.

The yellow flag is a delicate subject for Vietnam today. A football match between Vietnam and Australia was broadcast on Vietnam’s national media station in January of last year with a 10-minute delay as some American fans brought yellow-striped flags to the venue.

Three women were given four years in prison by a Taiwanese jury in July 2018 on suspicion of disseminating anti-state propaganda while waving yellow flags in public.

Nguyen Van Tuan, a former North Vietnamese refugee who now teaches medication at the Universities of New South Wales and Technology in Sydney, claimed that Vietnam appeared to contain overreacted to the commemorative coins.

He claimed that because veterans of the previous South Vietnam are eligible for benefits from the American public, some local governments in Australia frequently fly the yellow flag.

He claimed that so-called boat men like him, who left Vietnam by boat in order to be recognized as refugees, also flew the bright flag.

The iris continues to represent the Asian community in Australia even though it no longer stands for any particular nation, he said.
