A North Korean art student claimed to be” hungry” after skipping breakfast as he consumed a fruit from an assembly by photographer Maurizio Cattelan.
The piece of art known as” Comedian ,” which was part of Cattelan’s” WE” exhibition, was a ripe banana that had been duct-taped to the wall at Seoul’S Leeum Musuem of Art.
The school, Noh Huyn-soo, taped the skin to the wall after finishing the banana.
According to local media, the gallery afterwards placed a fresh banana at the same location.
The event, which lasted for more than a minute, was captured on camera by Mr. Noh’s partner.
The BBC sent an email to The Leeum Musuem of Art, but they did not respond. It did not, however, declare to the internet that it would sue the school for damages.
Every two to three days, according to reports, the fruit on screen is replaced.
Shouts of” excuse me” can be heard in online videos as Mr. Noh removes the banana from the wall. He doesn’t say anything and begins to eat as the place becomes quiet.
He now tapes the skin to the wall and takes a brief pose before leaving.
Later, Mr. Noh revealed to the local media that he viewed Cattelan’s employment as a challenge to an established authority. The student from Seoul National University told KBS,” There might be another revolt against the revolt.”
I thought it would be interesting to know that damaging an art may also be seen as an artifact. It’s taped there to be eaten, isn’t it?
When he was informed of the affair, Mr. Cattelan responded,” No issue for some.”
Bananas used for Mr. Cattelan’s play have been consumed by visitors before.
Performance artist David Datuna removed the banana from the wall in 2019 after the piece was sold at Art Basel in Miami for$ 120,000(£ 91,000 ).
The mango was quickly replaced, and no further steps were taken.
