Kingfisher tycoon Vijay Mallya sentenced to jail in India

India’s top courtroom has sentenced tycoon Vijay Mallya in order to four months within jail for disobeying an earlier court reasoning linked to the collapse of his airline.

India has previously made efforts in order to extradite the former billionaire, who is believed to be in London.

He produced his fortune promoting beer under the Kingfisher brand before branching out into modern aviation and Formula one racing.

Kingfisher Airlines was India’s second largest domestic company before it collapsed a decade ago.

On Monday, India’s Supreme Court found Mr Mallya guilty of contempt, because it said he did not disclose his assets after defaulting on a loan.

He had been found guilty of the same offence in 2017 for allegedly transferring $40m to their children, even as loans to Kingfisher Air carriers remained unpaid, the courtroom said at that time .

Known as the “king of good times”, in a mention of the his lavish life-style, Mr Mallya provides fought extradition through the UK to Indian, where he faces fees including fraud.

Mr Mallya who left India in 2016 after defaulting upon debts of more than $1bn (£842m), has denied fleeing the country.

Late in 2018, a court in London dominated that he could be extradited from the UK in order to India to face charges right now there.

In 2020, Mr Mallya dropped his final attractiveness against his extradition at the High Court in London. However , he could be still believed to be living in London.

Mr Mallya faces a number of fees related to alleged financial irregularities at Kingfisher Airlines.

The provider was wound down in 2012 amid reports that pilots and cabin crew had worked unpaid meant for 15 months.
