A German-American transport company executive wanted in the United States on suspicion of being part of a multimillion dollar fraud has been arrested after allegedly fleeing to Thailand to escape authorities back home.

Pol Maj Gen Montree Thesakhan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, said yesterday that the man was arrested at a condominium on Lat Phrao 10 Road in Chatuchak district on Thursday following a tip-off from US authorities.

He identified the suspect only as “Lars”.

According to the commander, the Federal Bureau of Investigation had named 10 people suspected of embezzling about US$52 million (about 1.7 billion baht) from the transport company over the course of a decade.

Nine of the suspects were swiftly rounded up, leaving the tenth, Lars, who was tracked down in Thailand.

The suspect admitted he was the man named in the arrest warrant issued in the US and agreed to be extradited.
