Metal-laced seaweed withdrawn from sale

The Food and Drug Administration has warned people not to consume a certain batch of Nori roasted seaweed products due to unsafe cadmium contamination.

The FDA said yesterday that its warning concerned Nori roasted seaweed products manufactured on Nov 3, 2022 that are set to expire on May 2. The food serial number is 10-3-07157-5-0780.

Its staff took samples of the product by Yamatoku Co in Japan and imported by JFC (Thailand) Co for inspection. The product was in 250-gramme packs.

The Department of Medical Sciences found the products had 3.81mg of cadmium per kilogramme, almost double the safety threshold.
