KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia passengers will not be required to wear masks on flights unless they are travelling to or from destinations that mandate it.
This will take effect immediately, AirAsia said in a statement on Thursday (Sep 29).
Passengers who wish to wear masks onboard AirAsia flights may continue to do so.
“All our aircraft are equipped with powerful HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters that remove 99.99 per cent of dust particles and airborne contaminants including viruses and bacteria,” the Malaysian airline said.
“The cabin air is completely refreshed every three minutes to ensure the highest possible quality of air throughout your flight.”
On Wednesday, Malaysia’s health ministry scrapped the requirement to wear masks on flights.
The ministry said its decision was based on improved aircraft technology and COVID-19 cases in Malaysia coming under control.
