PETALING JAYA: The global aviation industry has to look beyond the impact of the pandemic and forge new strategies for the industry, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“This includes linking and connecting people, cultures and businesses across continents,” the Transport Minister said in a Facebook post Wednesday (Sept 28).
Dr Wee said the respective governments must focus on reviving and rebuilding aviation by focusing on the passenger.
“We must upgrade our protections for consumers through innovative solutions and digilitisation in tandem with scaling up our civil aviation capabilities and safety compliances,” Dr Wee said after a presentation at the 41st session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada on Tuesday (Sept 27).
He said as part of the commitment to ICAO’s goals for environment sustainability and human capital development, Malaysia supported the United Nation’s sustainable development goals and participated in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation programme by ICAO.
“The Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme has trained more than 400 aviation personnel worldwide at the ICAO-accredited Malaysia Aviation Academy in the spirit of mutual cooperation.
“Meanwhile, in appealing to our fellow member states, particularly those in Asia-Pacific, I made a case that Malaysia’s proven contributions and commitment to the ideals and initiatives of the ICAO make us a leading candidate to be re-elected to the council so we may continue to serve effectively,” added Dr Wee.
