China’s Shanghai says new Omicron subvariant found

SHANGHAI: The city of Shanghai has discovered a COVID-19 case concerning a new subvariant Omicron BA. 5. 2 . 1, an official told a briefing upon Sunday (Jul 10), signalling the problems China faces to maintain with new mutations as it pursues its “zero-COVID” policy.

The case, found in the financial area of Pudong on Jul 8, had been linked with a case through overseas, said Zhao Dandan, vice-director from the city’s health commission payment.
