CHIANG RAI: A kamnan, or tambon key, in Mae Fah Luang district of this northern border province was arrested whilst transporting nine Chinese language men who acquired illegally entered the country from Myanmar, police reported.
About 3pm on Monday, soldiers in the 3rd Cavalry Routine of the Pha Muang Force stopped a black Isuzu pick-up with Chiang Rai licence plates in a checkpoint at Ban Lise, the Moo 9 village within tambon Mae Fah Luang.
The pickup was driven by Thanapol, 48, the kamnan of tambon Mae Fah Luang, police said. His surname was not given.
Nine Chinese language men were found in the rear of the pick-up. They admitted having illegally entered the nation from Tachilek township in Myanmar, reverse Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district. The soldiers found in their own possession 45 cell phones, a large number of credit cards plus an amount of cash.
Mr Thanapol said the 9 Chinese were through some people he had in no way met before to his house within tambon Mae Fah Luang. They questioned him to take the particular men to tambon Huay Khrai in Mae Sai district. He was to be paid 1, 1000 baht for each of them.
The kamnan said he thought the Chinese language were carrying given and did not understand how they had arrived in the country.
When questioned, the 9 men said they will worked at a call centre in Myanmar, soliciting investments on the web. They fled to Thailand to escape actions by Myanmar specialists. They were handed over to the Chiang Rai immigration office for lawful action.
Mr Thanapol had been taken to Mae Fa Luang law enforcement station where he was initially charged with human smuggling.
