Thousands of protestors have stormed Chief executive Gotabaya Rajapaska’s residence in the capital of Sri Lanka.

Demonstrators from all over the country have marched to Colombo demanding his resignation after months associated with protests over mismanagement of the country’s economic crisis.

It is not known if the president is currently at the residence.

The country is suffering widespread inflation and is fighting to import food, fuel and medication.

Thousands of anti-government protestors travelled within cars, vans plus buses to the capital, with officials informing AFP that several had even “commandeered” trains to get presently there.

Authorities had attemptedto stop the demonstration from taking place by imposing a curfew on Friday night. But protestors were undeterred, and the curfew was lifted after civil society groupings and opposition parties strongly objected into it.

Sri Lanka has go out of foreign currency supplies and is struggling in order to import food, gas and medicine.

The UN on Friday urged both the government bodies and the protesters to make sure Saturday’s rally was peaceful.
