11 govt officials charged over bribery in illegal fishing case

SONGKHLA: Eleven federal government officials, including six immigration police, have already been arrested and billed with taking bribes to enable the release associated with five foreign angling trawlers earlier confiscated for illegally angling in Thai oceans.

Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn, assistant nationwide police chief, about Friday evening released the arrests within the 11 officials needed for alleged graft and also malfeasance.

In December last year, law enforcement agency and fisheries officials seized the trawlers and arrested 22 crew for doing some fishing in Thai seas without permission.

After legal proceedings, the trawlers were kept from the Songkhla customs business and then later put up for auction.

The 6 immigration police was Pol Sub Lt Chanida Khaiyasena, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Reowadee Suphong, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Khunnaphat Chanowan, Pol Sgt Rada Nookhong, acting Pol Luxury touring Chatree Onthon, plus acting Pol Lt Chindanai Kawsriwarawong.

The other five were two marine officials — Niti Uthumporn and Chatuporn Khetdam, and several senior disease handle checkpoints — Anuphat Korwanit, Jettawat Khomkhao and Nonthaphat Ampornphan.
