Districts in northern and eastern Bangkok and parts of adjacent Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani were again under water on Thursday afternoon after more torrential rain.

Traffic police radio and Jor Sor 100 traffic radio stations on Thursday warned motorists of traffic snarls on Chaeng Wattana Road in Lak Si district due to flooding after non-stop afternoon rain.

Photos posted on social networks also showed flooded roads in Bang Khen, Klong Sam Wa, Lat Krabang, Don Mueang districts, while much of Bang Na district on the eastern part of the capital was also under water. Some locations in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi and Muang district of Pathum Thani and Phra Samut Chedi district in Samut Prakan were also inundated.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said Lak Si reported the highest precipitation, 75 millimetres,  after only two hours of rain on Thursday. On Wednesday, neighbouring Bang Khen reported 170 millimetres of rain — the highest in 20 years.

Rangsit continued to be the hardest hit area in Pathum Thani as Klong Rangsit again looked set to overflow on Thursday. As more rain fell it had nearly reached its capacity.

The Nakhon Rangsit Municipality red-flagged areas along the canal, warning residents to stay vigilant as their houses were at risk of flooding.

Heavy rain was forecast in Bangkok and adjacent provinces at least until Friday by the Meteorological Department. (continues below)

The national weather service said heavy rain and possible flash floods was likely in all regions except the South, where only Ranong and Phangnga were on alert.

Rain was forecast for 70-80% of the country.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said flooding was reported in 17 provinces since Monday. There were no reports of death or injuries.
