Six locals arrested over looted Koh Samui hotel

SURAT THANI: Six people have been caught after a closed and locked Koh Samui hotel was found looted, stripped bare of everything of worth to the tune of 70 million baht.

Pol Col Yuthana Sirisombat, chief of the Lever Phut police train station, said the Chaweng Blue Lagoon Hotel near Chaweng seaside was found cleaned out.

Who owns the 400-million-baht hotel with 348 areas had closed plus locked the property following the Covid-19 pandemic struck. The contract with the first developer plus tenant had ended two years ago.

The resort was inside a compound on private property and could not be seen from the outside resulting in the particular looting not being discovered sometime right after it had occurred, Pol Col Yuthana said.

Thieves took almost all they could remove through the hotel, including elevators, toilets, shower heating units, curtains, wiring, strength outlets, air-conditioners, penis pumps, windows, doors, furniture, chairs, beds and lamps. All that continued to be was the empty creating structure.

Pol Col Yuthana said that six suspects had been arrested plus police were hunting others also believed to be involved.

Surat Thani law enforcement chief Pol Maj Gen Sathit Polpinit said the suspects were all residents. Investigators had not discovered any connection with any outside criminal gang.

Police were checking additional hotels on the isle that had been locked and deserted, to learn in case others had also been looted, he said.
