Helmeted hornbills can soon be improved from a protected outrageous species to a set aside species due to the increasing likelihood of them getting extinct, deputy federal government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said.

The cabinet upon Tuesday agreed within principle on a draft royal decree, suggested by the Ministry associated with Natural Resources and Environment, to list the helmeted hornbill ( Rhinoplax vigil ) as Thailand’s twentieth reserved wild species, she said.

It is estimated that you will find less than 100 helmeted hornbills in Thailand and the risk of them becoming extinct is becoming higher following a surge in their value in the black market.

The wild bird is known to possess a relatively low breeding rate which increases the risk of it becoming an extinct varieties, she said, including that most helmeted hornbills are found in national parks in Chumphon and Narathiwat.

Under the Tradition on International Business in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna plus Flora (Cites), Asia is obliged to make sufficient legal procedures to ensure the protection of reserved and secured species, she mentioned.
