Immigration detains 166 foreigners in raid on KL entertainment outlet

KUALA LUMPUR: Immigration officers have detained 166 foreigners in a raid on an entertainment outlet along Jalan Sultan Ismail which offers guest relation officer (GRO) services.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the patrons were busy partying when they raided the premises at about 11.30pm on Wednesday (July 6).

He said some of the GROs and workers tried to flee but 39 officers involved in the raid had cordon off the area and prevented their escape.

“The foreigners detained are 133 Thai women, nine Thai men, 12 Vietnamese women and a Vietnamese man, two women from Laos, three Indonesian women and six Bangladeshi men.

“They were detained for various offences, including overstaying and not having valid identification documents. All of them were brought to the Immigration depot in Bukit Jalil,” he said in a statement on Thursday (July 7).

Khairul Dzaimee said the outlet has been in operation since June 5.

“It provides GRO services with charges ranging between RM100 and RM1,000.

“We are investigating this case further,” he said.
