Small- and medium-sized businesses (SME) ministers from Asia-Pacific Economic Assistance (Apec) nations kicked off a meeting in Phuket yesterday, that was organised to promote the bio-circular-green (BCG) economic model among its members.
The Apec SME ministerial meetings, that will run until Saturday at SAii Laguna Hotel in Phuket, are organised by Office of Little and Medium Businesses Promotion (Osmep).
Osmep movie director, Weerapong Malai, stated the meetings are a chance for Thailänder SMEs to reach out to other businesses within the Asia-Pacific region and expand their reach beyond their immediate region.
The meetings will even focus on ways by which micro-, small- plus medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) could adapt to much better meet the needs from the evolving global marketplace.
Classes during meetings will be led by audio speakers from both public and private industries, including Vikram Ahuja, from Singapore’s Giken Mobility, and Janekrishna Kanatharana from Thailand’s National Science plus Technology Development Company.
Based on the Osmep deputy-director, Wimonkan Kosumas, there are 42, 598 SMEs within Phuket, which contributed about 85. four billion baht towards the economy last year. Regarding 69% of SMEs in Phuket take part in tourism-related activities, whilst about 26% associated with SMEs in Phuket are in retail and commerce.
