Paetongtarn “Ung-Ing” Shinawatra of the Pheu Thai Party holds a wide lead over the prime ministerial candidates of other parties in Chon Buri, according to a National Institute of Development Administration survey.
The survey, also known as the Nida Poll, was conducted over the telephone between Feb 7-14 among 1,100 respondents.
Chon Buri has been allocated 10 seats in the House in the upcoming election, up from eight in the 2019 election. In the last election, the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) took five seats; the rest went to the now-defunct Future Forward Party, which has rebranded itself as the Move Forward Party (MFP).
Asked which candidate they would vote for in the next election, about 31% of respondents picked Ms Paetongtarn, followed by Prayut Chan-o-cha of the United Thai Nation (UTN) Party (18.3%), MFP’s Pita Limjaroenrat (17.3%) and Sereepisuth Temeeyaves from the Seri Ruam Thai Party (6.91%), while about 9.5% of respondents did not pick any.
When asked which party they would pick constituency MPs from, Pheu Thai also came on top with 38.8%, followed by the MFP (19.5%) and the UTN (16.2%).
Similarly, when asked which party they would pick party-list MPs from, Pheu Thai came first with 38.8%, followed by the MFP (19.5%) and UTN (16.1%).
Ms Paetongtarn said the result is an important indicator of the people’s faith both in her and the Pheu Thai Party.
