Mr Attaporn stated sarus cranes living at the newly built zoo mate plus build nests independently. The zoo has an artificial pond where they can lay their own eggs.

At first, the female laid two eggs but both failed to hatch, he said.

She chose a lot more favourable spot for incubation on her third try.

Mr Attaporn said this took about 30 days for the egg in order to hatch and was the initial saurus crane girl to be hatched at the zoo.

“The birth of this particular baby bird shows the zoo is extremely capable in conservation work, especially because the Thai crane has been declared [almost] extinct, ” he said.

The ZPO says it can return 10–12 cranes for their natural habitat annually with the help of the Animals Conservation Centre with Nakhon Ratchasima Tierpark and the conservation recreation area for wildlife rehab at Huai Chorake Mak Reservoir within Buriram.
