SINGAPORE: Law and Home Matters Minister K Shanmugam on Wednesday (Aug 31) called on Singaporeans to be thoughtful to Joseph Education and Amanda Lim, and to “give them our support and backing”.
His comments arrived a day after it was announced that the two national swimmers had been looked into by the Central Drugs Bureau (CNB) meant for possible offences related to the consumption of cannabis .
“I am sure Singaporeans will be gracious, please remember the wonderful elements these two young people have done, ” Mr Shanmugam said in a Facebook post on Wed.
“These swimmers have worked hard, given much. They delivered glory to Singapore.
“Schooling especially scaled heights which I never imagined: Olympic Gold and that too in swimming. I would never forget him coating up against legends – the finals got so many superstars. And beat all of them. inch
Mr Shanmugam added that the set had not received any kind of preferential treatment.
“Both Schooling plus Amanda have been dealt with in the same way how others have been treated, ” he said.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence said that Education had admitted in order to consuming cannabis in-may when he has been on short-term disruption from full-time Nationwide Service to train and participate in the Southeast Asian Games.
Sport Singapore (SportSG) said that Lim had received a strict warning from CNB under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
